Australian Cash Stream – The Board Game!

At the end of 2021, We took the steps for another exciting journey, this time in the forum in re-releasing a South Australian board game from 1987.

This has been a 12 month journey in the works, with many people to thank, most of all, especially my Wife Tamara.

About Australian Cash Stream

Australian CASH STREAM is a family friendly game where players compete against each other to amass great amounts of wealth through acquirement of Commercial Companies and Cash Holdings.

Jump on board to play amongst 42 participating companies with the aim to buy and build your own business portfolio.

From the first roll of the dice, the race is on to buy companies you land on to add to your portfolio.

Along the way you will encounter challenges which may put your portfolio at risk. These range from Bankruptcy challenges, inflation rises and decreases, fines to pay, rent to pay to other players and much more!

Are you as business savvy as you think? Can you use the right strategy to stay on top? This game gives you the chance to use those skills to be number one!

          Lancefield Swamp

image A bit of exciting news to announce!

In Grade 6, as a class, we visited a paleontology dig at the Lancefield Swamp – a site which, buried approx. 3 meters down, has approx. 10,000 individuals in it, from approx. 68,000 years ago.

Diprotodon (Rhino sized Wombats), Macropus titan (Giant Kangaroo), Genyornis (Giant flightless bird), Thyacinus (Marsupial Lion) and a wide range of other pre-historic animals are all located in the swamp bone bed deposit.

I have teamed up with that original professor from Deakin University and the Lancefield Community House, to assist Dr Sanja and her team with the funding needed to conduct field work at the swamp again to help answer some questions in relation to the swamp.

This field work will be using Ground Penetrating Radar to identity any in-let or out-let channels surrounding the swamp, which may have been the source of the flood which initially deposited the 10,000 individuals.

We are thankful for the native owners of the land and the assistance of the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation for allowing this passive and non-detective investigation to assist in our knowledge and understanding of the Site, The Swamp and how it came to be.

This is an exciting project for me – as the excursion at school to the swamp, lead to a life long passion for the ancient world its very exciting to be involved and assist the progress of science!

          Stay tuned for updates!

As the nature of the swamp is quite wet, the field work will be conducted at the end of Summer (date to be set approx. March/April 2023).

          • 3:30 PM – Getting started with Teams Shared Channels - Daniel Anderson (MVP)

Shared channels in Microsoft Teams create collaboration spaces where you can invite people who are not in the team.

Traditionally this has been a not so perfect user experience

The release of shared channels is big news for organisations working together, a new model of external federation that makes it seamless and easy.

In this session you will learn the basics of how to get started

          About Daniel Anderson

Every day I get to work in an industry, with people and businesses where I can make a difference in the way everyday work is experienced. I believe in inspiring businesses and individuals to re-evaluate how they operate, communicate, collaborate, and function. I believe in industry disruption and as a Microsoft MVP (Most Valued Professional), I have the experience, platform, and opportunity to do that.

Microsoft MVPs are technology experts who passionately share their knowledge with the community. We are always on the "bleeding edge" and have an unstoppable urge to get our hands on new, exciting technologies. We have very deep knowledge of Microsoft 365 products, services and ecosystem, while also being able to bring together diverse platforms, products and solutions, to solve real world problems to individuals and entire organizations

I am a highly experienced, passionate and driven Microsoft 365 specialist and enjoy helping businesses grow through employee engagement and empowering talent to achieve more with Microsoft 365. I specialise in Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, modern workplace, employee engagement, as well as the overarching employee experience.

I have a proven track record in leading technical development and delivery, consulting on productivity optimization, as well as boosting collaboration, business processes, and employee experience. Over the past 20 years, I have helped hundreds of organisations and thousands of individuals plan, architect, develop, implement, and adopt Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and other areas of Microsoft 365 through effective planning, strategic analysis, communication, training and execution and in doing so been able to build my own following and community.

I have also contributed greatly to the wider community by sharing my knowledge into the community through many different platforms.

I believe that I have a particular talent for encouraging open dialogue, which helps everyone feel well informed and comfortable navigating their technology platforms to achieve their desired business outcomes.

With a passion for teaching, technology, business strategy, change management, adoption, process and a keen eye for detail, I enjoy the challenges of bringing people together and translating technical jargon into easy terminology so end users, and businesses can understand and grow together.

          Lancefield Megafauna

As some of you may be aware, I have been poking around for some very specific people / job titles in recent weeks on LinkedIn, Sedimentologists, Palaeontologist, archaeologist, cultural officers.

Where I grew up – Lancefield – it is home to an ancient swamp – ~65,000 years old with many large mega fauna bones in the bone bed – some 10,000 individuals are estimated to be under the soil.

In grade 6, I actually visited this area and attended one of the digs.

          Check it out at http://www.lancefield.org.au/megafauna

Stay tuned, more news to come!

          Welcome to danielbrown.au

That's right! I have made the change to have the new .AU namespace as my domain.

danielbrown.id.au still functions and works, but now my primary domain will be danielbrown.au!

.au domains went live on March 24th – Took a few days for my domains to became active.

The agenda for next month’s activities are:

          • 3:00 PM – Login, Arrive, Relax, General chit-chat and networking!
          • 3:15 PM – Welcome, Introductions, Australian Computer Society & Microsoft Ignite / Office 365 Recap – Daniel Brown
          • 3:30 PM – IT Insecurity - Understanding the Threat of Modern Cyber-attacks – Michael Noel (COO)

Organisations today are vastly unprepared for the threat of modern cyber-attacks. At the same time, the attackers are becoming more sophisticated and the amount of resources at their disposal is increasing. It has become a lucrative business to hack, disrupt, and steal intellectual property from organisations of all sizes and in all business sectors.

While the attackers are becoming more sophisticated, organisations have their IT security positioned for threats from the past century, with poor password management techniques, simple ACL based file permissions, and basic firewall and zone-based containment techniques. This makes it easier for attackers to obtain access to critical intellectual property and makes career-ruining disruptions all the more common.

This session focuses on understanding what is currently wrong with IT security practices and how your organisation can change processes, techniques, and tools to provide for a significantly higher level of IT security without necessarily having to deploy expensive tools or obtrusive processes.

What will participants learn/gain/discover if they attend?

          • Understand the pitfalls of current IT Security practices, including myths around password change policies, allowing logins without providing multiple factors, and the proliferation of ‘always-on’ admin rights.
          • Examine how simple changes in IT strategy can greatly improve your overall IT posture, including providing for up to a 99% improvement in the likelihood of a data credential theft.
          • Determine which easy to deploy tools and features which you may already be licensed for can be used to tighten up IT security within an environment, including solutions such as Microsoft Defender for Identity, Azure Sentinel, Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps, next-generation firewalls, and more.

          About Michael Noel

Michael Noel is an internationally recognized technology/cybersecurity expert and bestselling author who has spoken on a broad range of topics at over 300 events in over 90 countries around the world. He has authored over twenty major industry books including the bestselling SharePoint Unleashed series. Currently a partner at Convergent Computing (www.cco.com) in the San Francisco Bay Area, Michael's writings and extensive public speaking experience leverage his real-world expertise helping organisations realise value from both on-premises and cloud offerings.

          • 4:15 PM – Supercharging productivity through Office Add-in development - Cameron Dwyer (OnePlace Solution)

Office add-ins have the potential to keep people focused and in context of what they are doing by bringing information and custom functionality to where people work inside the Office applications. Learn about the most useful extension points (or "building blocks"). Armed with this knowledge you will be able to identify business processes and workflows that could be made much more efficient. If you are looking to get started developing modern Office add-ins or want to learn where this evolving extensibility framework is up to, this is the session for you. We will cover developing for Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

What will participants learn/gain/discover if they attend?

          • Learn how to keep users productive by bringing your custom functionality to some of the most used software products on the planet
          • Learn what is possible with the latest Office extension points
          • Learn about the tools, technologies, and tips for development

          About Cameron

Cameron is the Chief Technology Officer at OnePlace Solution overseeing an award winning Microsoft 365 product portfolio. More than 20 years’ experience as a developer solving complex challenges and running SaaS offerings at global scale.
